What is a Rack PDU?
Rack-mounted Power distribution units or Rack PDUs manage and distribute huge amounts of electricity by connecting to your existing monitoring system and offers the benefit of remote accessibility. Rack PDUs are the last link in the power distribution chain, ensuring efficient delivery of mission-critical power to IT loads and effectively distributing power to all IT equipment. To meet the demands of the ever-evolving data centre requirements, rack PDUs are designed to accommodate higher power densities.
Types of Rack PDU?
Mainly, there are two different types of rack PDUs, and they can be classified as non-intelligent PDUs or intelligent PDUs. Non-Intelligent PDUs can be further classified into basic PDUs and Monitored PDUs. These types of PDUs are usually used for basic functions and lack remote accessibility. Whereas there are four different types of intelligent rack PDUs, namely metered Input PDUs, metered Outlet PDUs, switched PDUs, and Switched PDUs with Outlet Metering; all these intelligent rack PDUs offers efficient and effective efficiencies.

APC Easy Basic Rack PDU provides reliable rack power distribution for server rack and network rack via a single input with multiple output receptacles and distribute power from low amperage single phase circuits to higher-power 3 phase power solutions.

Easy Metered Rack Power Distribution Units (Rack PDU) provide real-time remote monitoring, power management of connected loads, and much more features than the average power strip.
APC Easy Metered Rack Power Distribution Units (PDUs) provide active metering to enable energy optimisation and circuit protection. User-defined alarm thresholds mitigate risk with real-time local and remote alerts to warn of potential circuit overloads. Metered Rack PDUs provide power utilisation data to allow Data Center Managers to make informed decisions on load balancing and right sizing IT environments to lower total cost of ownership. Users can access and configure Metered Rack PDUs through https/http, SNMPV1/V2/V3. Easy Metered Rack PDUs include a temperature/humidity sensor port to monitor the environment.

Easy Switched Rack Power Distribution Units (Rack PDU) provide on/off outlet switching, advanced power management, load monitoring and much more features than the average power strip.
APC Easy Switched Rack Power Distribution Units (PDUs) enable advanced, user-customisable power management and remote monitoring. Remote outlet level controls allow power on/off functionality for power cycling to remotely reboot equipment and restrict unauthorised use of individual outlets. Current metering provides real-time remote monitoring of connected loads with user-defined alarms to warn of potential circuit overloads. Users can access, configure, and control Easy Switched Rack PDU through https/http, SNMPV1/V2/V3 . Easy Switched Rack PDU includes environmental monitoring including temp sensor and humidity sensor port to monitor the environment.

APC Switched Rack Power Distribution Units (PDUs) enable advanced, user-customisable power control and active monitoring. Remote outlet level controls allow power on/off functionality for power cycling to remotely reboot equipment and restrict unauthorised use of individual outlets. Power sequencing time delays allow users to define the order in which to power up or down attached equipment to avoid circuit overload. Current metering provides real-time remote monitoring of connected loads with user-defined alarms to warn of potential circuit overloads. Users can access, configure, and control Switched Rack PDUs through secure Web, SNMP, Command Line Interface, or Telnet Interfaces which are complimented by Schneider Electric’s Centralised Management platforms using StruxureWare Data Center Expert, Operations, Capacity, and Energy Efficiency. New AP8000 series Switched Rack PDUs include real power monitoring, a temperature/humidity sensor port, and locking IEC receptacles.
