DrayTek | Failover 3G/4G LTE Routers – Form Submitted/Thank You

Failover: 3G/4G LTE Routers For Business Continuity

A 3G or 4G connection on your DrayTek router functions just like any other WAN (Internet) connection – your connected users, wired or wireless have access to the Internet and can conduct all normal activities. Where 3G/4G is especially useful is providing connectivity where a hard-wired connection (DSL or cable) is not practical, but also for backup/failover as you’ll learn below.

As 3G/4G doesn’t need any additional fixed line rental (and with ‘PaYG’ there is no monthly cost) it’s ideal for contingency.

As well as letting you use 3G/4G as your primary or only method of connection to the Internet, DrayTek routers can also connect to ADSL/VDSL and then automatically switch to 3G/4G only in the event of DSL failure. This is ideal for businesses who rely on their internet connection and want the peace of mind and convenience of uninterrupted connectivity.

Additionally, DrayTek routers can support load balancing, whereby your Internet traffic from your local users is spread across multiple connections, for example ADSL and 4G. If you want a more complex setup, you can set rules to force different traffic types to use specific connections.

3G/4G Routers are ideal for:

Backup to your primary Internet feed (ADSL, fibre, etc.)

Providing lower cost broadband than a fixed line soluton

Areas without fixed line broadband access

Compatible witha wide range of 3G modems/phones

Temporary locations: Mobile homes, small office units in business parks

Locations on the move: coaches, trains, etc.

Fairgrounds and temporary exhibitions

Outdoor locations (the router and modem itself must be indoors)

Disaster planning and internet high availability

DrayTek 2620Ln Router

DrayTek 2620Ln Router

The Vigor 2620Ln is a low cost router/firewall with LTE/4G as the headline connection method. In addition, it can use any one of three methods for its primary WAN (Internet) connectivity, falling back to one of the others in case of service interruption. It has a Dual-SIM cellular (3G/4G/LTE) modem, VDSL2 / ADSL2+ modem (Phone Line Broadband) and Ethernet (RJ45 – which can connect to many other WAN delivery sources), the Vigor 2620Ln provides extreme flexibility to ensure a reliable connection

With the built-in 4G, the Vigor 2620Ln is ideal for mobile Internet connectivity, or locations which wish to use LTE as their primary connectivity method or temporary workplaces. You have the benefits of a DrayTek firewall, with optional web content filtering, shared by multiple users on wireless or wired connections to the unit. You slot regular (standard size) SIMs into the back of the vigor 2620Ln for use on any of the UK cellular networks or MVNOs (exc. Relish).

The Vigor 2620Ln then provides Internet access to your local clients and the VPN facility fires up automatically and can provide a secure VPN link back to your HQ, or channel all of your traffic through a compatible 3rd party VPN provider for added security.

DrayTek 2862Ln

The Vigor 2862L Series features the same specification as the standard Vigor2862 product with the addition of built-in 4G (Cellular/LTE) connectivity, compatible with all UK/Ireland cellular networks (apart from ‘Relish’). The series includes the Vigor 2862Ln and the Vigor 2862Lac, the difference being 802.11n Wireless LAN vs. 802.11ac dual-band (see full specification tab). If you do not want to use wireless it can be disabled.

The embedded 4G/LTE connectivity provides a self-contained solution as opposed to having to add external/USB modems to your router. A standard SIM slot on the back of the router is secured with a cover to prevent accidental removal (you can leave the cover off if you need easy access).

As well as connectivity to the 4G (LTE) networks, the Vigor 2862L series provides backward compatibility to 3G networks for areas or networks where 4G isn’t available. Full function SMS message operation also provides additional functionality and control.

Your 3G/4G can provide your sole/primary Internet connection, with optional fallback (backup) to another WAN connection (DSL or Ethernet fed) or 3G/4G can be the backup to your primary DSL/Ethernet connection.
